3 Ways To Prevent Water Damage

Living in south Florida can be a pain as far as water damage goes. Your home’s main foundation can be completely destroyed in a storm and its studs and support beams can be slowly damaged by termites attracted to the damp wood. In order to prevent this from happening, here are three easy ways to prepare you for the next heavy storm:

1. Have A Good Drainage System

Poor drainage not only weakens your house’s foundation; it causes uneven settling, cracks and pathways, making it easier for water to enter your home. To prevent this from happening, take care of your gutters regularly, and make sure that your downspouts direct water five to 10 feet away from your home.

2. Test The Sump Pump Often

During a storm, the sump pump switches on, and that’s not the time to find out it doesn’t work correctly. You should have the sump pump checked once a year and, if possible, several times throughout storm seasons.

3. Look For Water Leaks, Have Them Fixed

Persistent leaks causes wood to rot, mold to grow and termites to move in. But if you fix a leak in time, you can prevent these pesky possibilities from happening.
