GCI Consultants, LLC has provided reliable building envelope consulting services for over 25 years now. This 50 story condominium project in Sunny Isles Beach, FL which completed construction in 2015 is just one of many shining examples of quality control done right.
Quality Control in the Field:
Because of GCI’s long standing reputation in the building envelope industry we’re often brought in to assist with design and serve a quality control function before, during and after construction. When it comes to glazing, waterproofing, roofing and sealant installation it’s imperative that our clients perform rigorous inspections and testing throughout the construction process to ensure the building envelope will perform properly.
Quality Control Process:
GCI is often hired to work with the design team in developing the building envelope specifications and details. We also provide reviews of shop drawings and submittals for glazing, waterproofing, and roofing systems and make our recommendations as to water infiltration resistance and hurricane wind compliance. These recommendations are typically reviewed and discussed during design team meetings with the client, architect, and contractor. GCI conducts pre-construction meetings with the client, contractor, any subcontractors and sometimes even the product manufacturers. During this meeting GCI will outline our detailed process that includes site inspections and water testing throughout the project to confirm building envelope components meet specifications drawn out in the original architectural drawings along with approved submittals.
Role of Special Inspector:
In certain areas (Miami Dade County and Broward County) GCI is able to act as a special inspector to assess glazing installation to ensure they are installed per approved shop drawing, engineering calculations and product specifications. This allows our clients to avoid having to wait for the municipalities to perform these inspections, which can often significantly delay a construction process. An approval from GCI serves the same function as an approval from a city inspector, which means the project can stay on track.
What Differentiates GCI
From Other Companies?
Few companies in the industry have the experience of GCI. We’ve been providing quality control services in the field for decades and bring this level of expertise to each project that we work on.
That’s the GCI guarantee.

She credits her mother as her greatest influence and inspiration because it was she that encouraged Maria to pursue this career.
Maria attended Miami Dade College where she received her AA. She then transferred to Florida International University to complete her bachelors degree in civil engineering while simultaneously working. She worked in the food and beverage industry, as well as owing her own company that specialized in stamped concrete and overlays. By the end of her studies, she had a job as an Autocad drafter in a land surveying company. In August 2015, she joined the GCI Consultants team.
I find this job an interesting and fulfilling position. I am enjoying the hands on experience thoroughly and I look forward to becoming an important asset to the company through continuous learning and growing as a professional in this field. – Maria
