Quality Control in the Field:
Because of GCI’s long standing reputation in the building envelope industry we’re often brought in to assist with design and serve a quality control function before, during and after construction.  When it comes to glazing, waterproofing, roofing and sealant installation it’s imperative that our clients perform rigorous inspections and testing throughout the construction process to ensure the building envelope will perform properly.

Quality Control Process:
GCI is often hired to work with the design team in developing the building envelope specifications and details.  We also provide reviews of shop drawings and submittals for glazing, waterproofing, and roofing systems and make our recommendations as to water infiltration resistance and hurricane wind compliance.  These recommendations are typically reviewed and discussed during design team meetings with the client, architect, and contractor.  GCI conducts pre-construction meetings with the client, contractor, any subcontractors and sometimes even the product manufacturers.  During this meeting GCI will outline our detailed process that includes site inspections and water testing throughout the project to confirm building envelope components meet specifications drawn out in the original architectural drawings along with approved submittals.

Role of Special Inspector:
In certain areas (Miami Dade County and Broward County) GCI is able to act as a special inspector to assess glazing installation to ensure they are installed per approved shop drawing, engineering calculations and product specifications.  This allows our clients to avoid having to wait for the municipalities to perform these inspections, which can often significantly delay a construction process.  An approval from GCI serves the same function as an approval from a city inspector, which means the project can stay on track.
